AGAINST THE DARKNESS SYSTEM

CD (Disc II) QUICK START

Insert the “Disc II” Disc in CD Player of your computer, it should self-load and display the Against the Darkness Resources CD menu and introduction on the screen. It may not “open” on all computer CD drives, especially those in older computers. In that case open the drive in your computer’s web browser, and you can choose the files there. It will work just like a web site.

Once you are in the main menu you may read the short introduction to the right or explore the various topics listed on the left.

On the left of your screen are a series of text files on the historical and modern Abenakis’ geography, arts, beliefs and politics, arranged by topic (signified by the “l” bullet to its left). These include, in order from top to bottom--a “Resources” section, “Bibliographies,” “Modern Issues,” “Genealogy,” “History,” “Religion/ceremony/politics”, “Geography,” “Clothing,” “Games,” and “Ethnobiology” (the use of plants and animals). Please note that these are not sub-menus but merely a classifying of data sets by topic.

You may click on any of the data sets (signified by the “¡” bullet to its left) and it will bring up the list, timeline, bibliography or article. Each article has a “Back to main menu” option or you can use your web Browser’s ç (back) button.

Within each data set you may see a file name highlighted in blue. This will call up a photo in the CD photo file system. If you are interested in information on the chosen picture, it is listed by the file-name in the “CD Image Database” (second data set from the top on the left), which will give you more detail about the object or image.
